Enforcement of Restrictions on Liquids

The new security regulations do not forbid the carrying of liquids, aerosols and gels in hand baggage; but they do restrict the amount you can carry.

Goods bought in Duty-Free and carried unopened in their sealed bags are exempt from the restrictions.

The restrictions on liquids do not apply to checked in baggage. All kinds of liquids may be carried in the baggage you hand over when you are given your boarding card, as long as they comply with the airline's rules and with Customs regulations.

You can carry liquids, gels or aerosols in your hand baggage in containers with a maximum capacity of 100 millilitres as long as each container is kept in a sealed bag with the capacity of 1 litre.

Passengers may carry only one bag each.

Sealable freezer bags may be used for this purpose.

At the last security control point you must remove the sealed bag containing liquids from your hand baggage and place it in the x-ray machine separately.

  • All liquids including water, syrups and drinks
  • Creams, lotions, oils (including cosmetic oils), perfumes, all kinds of makeup including mascara (not including solid lipsticks)
  • Shaving foams, deodorants
  • All paste-like substances, including toothpaste
  • All foods that are not completely solid, such as jams, honey, fruit molasses (pekmez) and sauces
  • Contact lens fluids
  • Shampoos
  • Other substances similar to the above.

Medicines (if accompanied by their original packaging and a medical report/certificate declaring that the passenger in question requires them or a written prescription bearing the passenger’s name)

Baby foods (For a baby who is onboard, and only the amount thought necessary for the duration of the flight)

At the control point security staff may ask you to provide documentation for exceptional cases or taste the medicine/baby food/liquid.

A member of staff may put in a special sealed bag any products that you have acquired from a duty-free shop or during a flight plus the receipts. Permission to board the flight will be given after this bag and the associated receipts have been checked at the security point.

If your journey involves connecting flights, it is very important that you do not open any special duty-free shopping bags acquired at shops or on flights until you reach your final destination airport. Otherwise the contents of the bag may be confiscated at a transfer airport.

If you have any doubts on this matter, please enquire at the airline or travel agent before your journey. You are obliged to cooperate with the security staff and airline personnel at the airport.
