Get set for a summer of Turkish adventures with Pegasus, Türkiye's leading low-cost airline with a dynamic young fleet. Pegasus makes Türkiye an accessible destination for adventure-lovers, offering fares from London, and from Istanbul to elsewhere in the country, always at affordable fares. Türkiye is an astonishingly diverse country and so we've chosen two exciting yet different regions to which we fly: the area around Trabzon on its eastern Black Sea coast and the fabled and mysterious region of Cappadocia. Hiking, riding, going underground, floating through the air at dawn – there are plenty of adventures to be had.
Trabzon’s mountain pastures, monasteries & hidden lakes
As the local saying goes ‘you can see every shade of green’ in the Black Sea region. For ones looking for alternatives to a beach holiday this summer, the Northern city of Trabzon, with its fertile landscapes of forests cascading to the sea, tranquil mountain pastures, fresh fish, hazel orchards, wonderful walking and thermal spas, offers visitors a one-of-a-kind travel experience.
Here you can find the region’s very own 13th-century Hagia Sophia in the ancient and fabled Byzantine city of Trebizond. The fourth-century rock-hewn Sumela monastery with its astonishing frescoes which perches high up a cliff-side among the lush alpine scenery of the Altindere National Park is a must-see. The lake of Uzungol, 99km from Trabzon, nestles in a valley of misty forested mountains at an altitude of 1250m where hotels and restaurants have joined the wooden-timbered houses of its pretty waterside village.
With scenic trekking routes and cosy boutique hotels, this truly off-the-beaten-track region should be on any adventurer’s bucket list.
Pegasus flights to Trabzon via Istanbul start from £99.99, including taxes & charges.
We are organising a press trip to Trabzon and the surrounding region in September this year, please get in touch to express interest.
Cave hotels, underground cities and ballooning in Cappadocia
Cappadocia with its incredible landscapes, ancient rock-carved churches and underground cities, cave hotels, and such activities as hot-air ballooning and hiking, offers an exciting adventure for travellers.
The area is rich in culture and history and Cappadocia is home to the Goreme National Park region, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This enchanting open-air museum is home to just some of the hundreds of rock churches that were carved and painted with elaborate frescoes by the early Christian communities that settled in the area.
The highlight of a trip to the region though is a ride in a hot-air balloon as dawn breaks – the region’s spectacular scenery and calm weather making it one of the world’s most enjoyable locations for ballooning. Other outdoor activities include hiking through such scenic valleys as the Rose, Pigeon and Love Valleys, horseback riding and bicycle tours, all of which can be enjoyed either with or without a guide.
Pegasus flights to Kayseri via Istanbul start from £93.99, including taxes & charges. Pegasus flights to Nevsehir via Istanbul start from £115.99, including taxes & charges.
