If you’ve ever thought, "What happened to the old spirit of Ramadan? Ramadan's not how it used to be", please step this way. We want to show you that this spirit is still alive. Organised through the endeavours of the municipal authority every Ramadan for many years, Payas Caravanserai Festival is now part of tradition, lasting for a whole twenty-nine days, from the first to the last day of the month of Ramadan. With many people visiting from neighbouring districts, the festival has a daily footfall of about 2500 people. Taking place in the Sokullu Mehmet Pasha Complex, a time-defying legacy from the great Ottoman architect Mimar Sinan, the festival combines history with Ramadan celebrations. To listen to the military band inside this historical structure is really something else, we must say. Packed with a whole range of activities, including theatre comedies, shadow plays, music recitals and concerts, Payas Caravanserai Festival also brings festival goers together with some of the biggest stars in the country.
