Romania Visa Types

Romania Category D Visa, or Romania National Visa, allows travellers to stay and reside in Romania for a longer period. This visa type is particularly issued to those who wish to carry out professional activity, pursue education or join family members in France.

General Requirements to Apply for a Romania Visa

In order to successfully obtain a Romania visa, it is important to be prepared and gather all the necessary information regarding your nationality and the purpose of your visit beforehand. Below, you can find the necessary documents to apply for Category C and Category D visas.

Requirements to Apply for a Category C Visa

• A duly filled and signed harmonised application form,
  • For minors, the form shall be signed by both parents or a person who exercises, permanently or temporarily, parental authority or guardianship.
• A travel document valid for at least three months after the estimated day of exit from the Schengen Area that contains at least two blank pages and has been issued within the last 10 years,
• One colour photo from a recent date,
• Supporting documents specifying the purpose of the visit,
• Proof of valid travel medical insurance,
• Proof of means of subsistence during the stay,
• Proof of payment of the visa fee.

Requirements to Apply for a Category D Visa

• A duly filled and signed application form,
  • For minors, the form shall be signed by both parents or a person who exercises, permanently or temporarily, parental authority or guardianship.
• A travel document valid for at least three months after the estimated day of exit from the Schengen Area that contains at least two blank pages and has been issued within the last 10 years,
• Two colour photos from a recent date,
• Supporting documents specific to the purpose of the journey in accordance with the Government Emergency Ordinance No.194/2002 on the regime of foreigners in Romania, republished, with its latest amendments and completions;
• Proof of payment of the visa fee.

What is Visa Sponsorship for Romania?

Visa sponsorship is required in Romania if the applicant cannot cover his/her expenses for educational or touristic purposes on his/her own for the duration of the stay. A sponsor could be a parent, sibling, other relatives, or a friend. The documents required from the sponsor are:

• A signed sponsorship letter that clearly states the relationship with the applicant, information on how and what expenses are going to be covered, personal and contact info of both the applicant and the sponsor, and accommodation details of the applicant
• A scanned copy of the ID
• Proof of sufficient funds, such as bank statements or payroll
• Proof of estate or business ownership, if applicable
